Produktinformationen "Dorothy Ashby"
Dorothy Ashby (1932–1986) gilt als eine der zu Unrecht unterschätztesten Jazzgrößen der 1950er Jahre und ist zweifellos die versierteste moderne Jazzharfenistin aller Zeiten. Sie etablierte die Harfe ganz allein als improvisierendes Jazzinstrument. Während das Instrument bis dahin lediglich als Neuheit im Klang eines Streichorchesters eingesetzt wurde (wie beispielsweise auf Charlie Parkers „Strings“ 1950), bewies Ashby, dass die Harfe Bebop genauso gut spielen konnte wie jedes andere Instrument. Obwohl sie nur ihren Namen trägt, war die hier vorgestellte LP von 1961 nicht ihr Debütalbum (sie hatte zuvor drei weitere veröffentlicht, beginnend mit „Jazz Harpist“ 1954), sondern ihr viertes.
